In the 1970’s, the California Medical Assistance Program (Medi-cal) made a decision to change their policy on circumcision reimbursement to health care providers. This was, in part, due to pressure imposed by those who oppose circumcision. Consequently, low income families who relied on Medi-cal monies for circumcisions were denied the choice to circumcise or not to circumcise their male infants. On the other hand, families with financial means continued to have that choice. Today, many families continue to struggle with the high cost of circumcisions, especially in light of managed care plans and health insurances refusing to cover the procedure for non-medical reasons.

Gentle Circumcision was created in response to this health care discrepancy by offering an affordable option to families with limited financial resources.

In addition to newborn circumcisions, we provide low-cost programs for older infants, pre-school/school-age children, teens and adult males.

Circumcising older infants has traditionally presented a problem for primary care providers. Reluctance to perform the procedure in an out-patient setting has led to unnecessary delay until the infant reaches 1 year of age. The cost can then increase by as much as 10-fold because of hospital and specialist fees. We provide all modes of pain management including local and general (sleep) anesthesia. Depending on individual medical needs or preference, circumcisions can be performed in a safe medical environment for all ages.

Our pediatric and urology specialists all have greater than 20 years experience performing the procedure and we schedule over 2000 cases annually. We are also proud to be the referral source for over 300 medical offices and 10 hospital medical centers in Los Angeles County.
